An incomplete early medieval silver halfpenny of Eadred (946-55), Two-Line/Horizontal type (HT1 var; North 722 HT 1 var.), moneyer: Mærtin, mint: probably either Winchester or Southampton (see below for discussion). Ref: North 1994: 143. The coin is chipped around the edge and is missing a small fragment from the outer circle. This coin appears to be the first of its type recorded for the moneyer Mærtin (or Martin), paralleled by one of Mangod which also has a flower/star-like object in the centre of the reverse.
