A slightly corroded 4th-century copper-alloy Roman nummus of Constantine I, 'BEATA TRANQVILLITAS', probably Lyon mint (c. 321 AD; Reece issue period 16; probably R.I.C. 126).
This coin has been pierced, presumably for use as a jewellery item at a later date. Although this practice occurred in the Roman period it is most commonly documented as an early-medieval practice. The piercing respects neither obverse nor reverse designs: it is at 2 o'clock on the obverse, at 3 o'clock on the reverse.
