This coin has been pierced, presumably for use as a jewellery item at a later date. Although this practice occurred in the Roman period it is most commonly documented as an early-medieval practice. The piercing respects neither obverse or reverse designs.

The piercing respects the obverse bust and probably the reverse design too, although this latter is difficult to discern. The cusping around the perforation to create semicircular shoulders is presumed to be deliberate.
