An 8th-century base silver early-medieval sceat of the 'porcupine' type (Series E, undefined subgroup, possibly variety A, although the obverse not entirely correct). The obverse appears to bear a cross, similar to an example illustrated in Gunstone (1992, Plate 15; ref. 476). However, the reverse design seems closest to a different coin in the same volume (ibid.; ref. 472). A coin with a similar reverse design has been found in Hampshire and is recorded on this database (HAMP-931400).
