A silver Roman Republican denarius of Mark Antony (42-30 BC), dating to the period 32-31 BC (Reece Period 1). Reverse type depicting a legionary eagle between two standards. Travelling mint. This type of coin survived the currency reforms of Nero (AD 54-68) due to their higher silver content. These are the most common Republican coins found by detectorists in Britain, although only two examples are known from pre-Roman stratified contexts, which indicates that most probably arrived post-Conquest (Moorhead, S. 2013. A History of Roman Coinage in Britain pp. 48-9).

Roman Coin: Near complete Republican silver denarius of Mark Antony, 32-31 BC. Produced by a mint moving with Mark Antony. Very worn condition, which is typical for most legionary denarii found in Britain due to the fact that these coins stayed in circulation until the third century and therefore typically show a degree of wear that reflects this. An exceptionally well preserved example can be seen at SF7572.
