Obv: undecorated. Rev: lunate horse left, phallus and 'face'. The face is distorted by abrasion or may be miss-struck. Sun star below, only half is visible, cut by the edge of the flan. A comparable example is also found in BMC 3149. Diameter 19mm, thickness 2mm , weight 5.3g.

A gold Iron Age North Eastern quarter-stater ('Lindsey Scyphate' type) of the Corieltavi dating to the period c. 60-30 BC. Cf. BMC, p. 175, nos 3187-3189; cf. ABC, p. 93, nos 1770 and 1773. The coin is only 0.5mm thick but has a noticeably concavo-convex flan. Eleanor Ghey (Research Assistant at the British Museum) comments: "This Iron Age gold coin is of a type known as a "scyphate stater" (from its dished shape). Iron Age coin; copper-alloy possible bronze fractional unit of uncertain type based on the weight & size but details too worn to decipher precisely, probably of North Eastern type (Corieltavi). Obverse probably shows a horse with three pellets or a ring of pellets above with the reverse motif being illegible. In line with this probable identification minted c.50-20 BC.

A silver Iron Age unit of the boar/horse type, a north-eastern uninscribed type, attributed to the Corieltauvi. Obverse: a boar right with a pellet and crescent above and a pellet within a disc below. Reverse: a stylised horse right with a crescent and pellet above. The coin dates from 50-20 BC, and corresponds with Brtish Museum catalogue number 3215, Van Arsdell Type (VA): 875.
