Roman copper alloy sestertius, extremely corroded, identified by its size (29 mm in diameter) and the size of the head. Imperial sestertii were issued from the beginning of the Empire to about AD 270 (Reece and James, 2000, p.17). The legends are illegible, and the surfaces worn and missing but on the obverse the head appears to be facing right. In the 2nd century, sestertii are often seen to have one or more straight sides and this coin is round, which probably makes it earlier rather than later, c.AD 81-138.

Silver long cross penny of Henry VI, First Reign (1422-1461). The coin is cracked and very worn, and most of the inscriptions are illegible, but the end of [hENR]ICVS can be made out in the obverse legend and CIVITAS [DVNO] LMI can be seen in the reverse legend, so it might be Durham mint. The initial mark appears to be a cross fleury with rounded ends but it is very worn and other marks are not visible to confirm this association. The ornaments and the central fleur in the crown are joined up to form a row of four circles.

A heavily clipped and worn silver shilling of Charles I (1625-1649), Exeter mint (1643-1646). The coin has been clipped right down to the inner circle so that all the inscriptions are missing, and the obverse of the coin is worn almost flat.
