A modern replica coin made by David Greenhalgh (Grunal the moneyer; this name is used on the reverse of the coin) copying a penny of Anlaf Guthfrithsson dating to the period (AD 939-941). Raven type. Cross reverse with single pellet in each quadrant. Type: N 537 (Anlaf Guthfrithsson, Raven / Small Cross) Obverse description: Raven head left Obverse inscription: ●+ANLAFGVNVNC● Reverse description: Cross with single pellet in each quadrant Reverse inscription: +GRVNAL●MON● cf. North 1994: No 537 for real issue. Diameter: 20.03mm, Thickness: 1.37mm, Weight: 1.5g
