Silver cut half of a short cross penny of John (1199-1216), Class Vb1 (c.1205), London mint. The coin has been cut horizontally across the portrait face on the obverse, and the visible part of the inscription reads [hENRIC]VS R/E[X]. The S has a pellet in centre, which suggests that the coin is of Class 5b1 (Mass 2001, 35. fig 2). Very little of the face is visible, but a particular feature is the hand holding the sceptre is shown almost directly under the centre of the collar, whereas in most of these coins the hand is aligned with the left of the collar.
