About half of the edge is missing, making the mint and moneyer difficult to identify. The coin is 18.8mm long, 15.7mm wide and 0.6mm thick. It weighs 0.63g. For reference see North number 766, (Figure 1). Wendy Scott suggests that the mint could be Gloucester or Lewes based on the reverse legend probably reading LPE, which could be a blundered LEPE or even LÆPE.

An early-medieval silver Carolingian denier of Charles the Bald (AD 840-77) or later, monogram/METVLLO type dating from the AD 860s-c.925, mint: Melle, France. Weight 1.52g, Diam 20.9mm, Thickness 1mm. Ref: Coupland 2015: 70, 75. The coin is in overall good condition but has a small tear at the top of the coin. On the obverse the bottom of this is crescent shaped and possibly slightly lifted from the surface suggesting that this tear resulted from the testing - pecking - of the coin to check its quality. A copper alloy hammered coin: probably an Early Medieval Northumbrian styca of Eanred or Aethelred II, dating from AD 810-848. The coin is mostly illegible, with the central motifs and one inscription no longer legible. The extant partial legend probably reads [---] ED R[...], very tentatively suggesting, if this is on the obverse, a regal issue of either Aethelred (EDILRED) II, AD 840-848, or of Eanred (AD 810-840). A damaged silver coin dating from the Early Medieval period; A silver sceat of Eadberht of Northumbria dating to the period AD 738 - AD 757. Series Y, class A. Quadruped right reverse type, lion raising forepaw. North vol 1, p. 70, no. 177. Abramson p. 44, no. Y050. The coin has broken into two unequal halves, which are differently patinated. The reverse side suggests FORDR[ED]. Issued by the moneyer Fordred and probably from Group C. Pirie (1996) motif 1, a plain cross, on both faces. The coin is 13.4mm in diameter and 1.4mm thick. It weighs 0.83g.
