Gold Gallic contemporary copy of a Solidus of Anastasius (491-518), possibly of the Pseudo-Merovingian coinage, c. 500-580. Copied from a coin of Constantinople. Found with associated Early Medieval finds from a ploughed cemetery site (Treasure case no. 2007 T203). Note: the BM has 7 imitations of solidi of Anastasius, but none are very similar to this piece. An unusual, early Anglo-Saxon silver sceatta. It is of Series F type B.i. Obverse: Crude bust right with pelleted headdress, surrounded by 'pseudo-lettering'. Reverse: Stepped cross, annulets on limbs, surrounded by pseudo-lettering. TTII in field. Series F is relatively scarce, though more common in eastern England. It is probably a crude imitation of a continental type.

Complete contemporary silver plated forgery (with copper-alloy core) of an Anglo-Saxon Coin (sceatta). The coin is a copy of a Series N type. The obverse shows a backwards facing beast with gaping jaw - possibly a dog, bear or mythical monster and the reverse is broadly illegible but should show two standing figures with a cross between. The item is dated 715-720. Imitations of Series N coins, including plated copies are known from around the country.

A very base silver Early Medieval coin; a Northumbrian styca of Archbishop Wigmund (837 - 854); moneyer: Aethelweard Pirie interprets this type of coin as being issued in the early 840s during the first reign of Aethelred II (841 - 844). The coin has a diameter of 14mm and is 1mm thick. It weighs 0.75g. The coin is corroded but in fair condition. This coin has been recorded from photographs and details kindly provided by the finder.
