A silver early medieval coin, probably a Merovingian denier dating c.725-50 and possibly minted in Poiters St.Hilaire (ancient Petavis) although this is uncertain. For similar coins from this mint see Depeyrot 2001, pl. 5, Poiters St-HIl nos 3 and 4. However, while the reverse type on these matches this coin, the bust here is of much better workmanship. ref: G. Description: An incomplete silver coin of Eadred (946-955). Obverse; Bust right [EA] DRED REX Reverse; small cross pattée + [ ] MBEIIIMONETA A fragment is missing from one edge due to old breaks. This coin has four fairly evenly spaced roughly circular holes through it, one is now incomplete. The holes were created by being punched through from the reverse face as the edges are raised and rough on the obverse face. These holes were presumably to allow the use of the coin as an item of jewellery, it is this change in use that means that it now qualifies as a Treasure find.

A gold Early Medieval coin; probably a Merovingian tremissis dating from the 6th or 7th century, 500-700 AD. It has a diameter of 10.92mm, thickness 1.40mm, weight 1.11g. The design seems too large for the flan, so possibly it was copied from a larger coin of c.20mm diameter. There is a border defined by solid lines on one face, containing curved line, straight lines and pellets. The central motif is an unintelligible group of curved lines and pellets. The other face is weakly struck and possibly bears a crude bust and blundered legend.

A silver penny of Edward the Confessor, Expanding Cross (heavy coinage) type of the moneyer Beorhtsige, c.1050-1053 AD. The coin has been modified with the addition of gilding on the reverse and damage at the centre of the obverse flan, probably indicating re-use as a coin brooch or similar object. This coin was found in c.1982 and therefore does not qualify as treasure under the terms of the Treasure Act. As North, 1975: no. 823, Dr. M. Allen (Fitzwilliam Museum, pers. comm.) notes that this coin is from the same reverse dies as SCBI 6 no. 686.
