The coin measures 11.0 mm in diameter and is 1.7mm thick.  It weighs 1.1g.  It has a slightly rough, reddish brown surface. Early medieval base silver styca of Eanred of Northumbria, dating to c. 810 - 841 AD. The obverse of the coin has the name of the king around a central cross pattee, spelling + E A N R E D R E X. There is a lot of variety in the size of the letters and all are retrograde. A and N in particular are much bigger than the rest and run in to each other. On the reverse of the coin is the name of the moneyer Folcnoth in the form: + [F] O L C N O D M (the first O has a dot in the centre). The F is no longer visible and the O L and C are difficult to see. The M stands for moneyer. The letters …

Early medieval base silver styca of Eanred (c. 810 - 841 AD). On the obverse is the king's name followed by a cross: EANRED R +. On the reverse is the name of the moneyer Cuthheard, also around a central cross: CVDHARD +. The edges of both sides are beaded and the coin has a shiny patina. The dimensions of the styca are: 13.97mm in diameter and 1.18mm in thickness. The styca has a weight of 0.92g.

The coin is more black than green indicating that it is base silver rather than the copper alloy of many later stycas. There are no exact matches to this coin in Pirie's CKN, nor obverse or reverse alone.
