For similar coins from this mint see Depeyrot 2001, pl. 5, Poiters St-HIl nos 3 and 4. However, while the reverse type on these matches this coin, the bust here is of much better workmanship. ref: G. A complete early medieval silver sceat of Primary Phase Series A2 (bmc type 2a), dating c.685-690 and probably minted in Kent. This coin exhibits a feature commonly associated with Series A3, namely the three pellets at the back of the head, but this is not unknown in Series A2. The ear appears to correlate better with A2 (a curl with pellet rather than curl with line) and the reverse design is exactly as expected for Series A2.

All six coins come from the Intermediate series of pennies, dating from around the beginning of the seventh century AD. In this period a number of different coin series circulated alongside each other, including both native Anglo-Saxon issues and Continental issues from the southern coast of the North Sea. Three types are represented in this hoard: one example of Series C (Anglo-Saxon), one example of Series D (Continental and four examples of Series E (Continental), including various sub-types. Comparison with other hoards and productive sites indicated that all of these types circ…
