Early Medieval sceatta Series D, type 2c continental runic sceat (Abramson, T. 2006, p.97-98). 'heavy type' c. 700-715, probably minted near the Rhine mouth. Metcalf distinguished between 'heavy' (1.1-1.3grams) and 'light' (<1grams) ones of this type. The light ones tend to be a bit more random and are possibly contempory copies (forgeries). A parralel for this one can be seen in Metcalf: Plate 9 example 173.

Possible Islamic, arabic or near eastern coin. Probably from the reign of Harum-al-Rashid (170-193 AH [786-809 AD]). Below the reverse of the coin is (Al-Fa dl). The obverse is badly corroded and therefore the mint is indistinct.
The occurance of similar cut silver arabic coins (and silver artefacts) has been explained through contact with the Viking or Anglo-Scandinavian trade routes.
