The coin is of a type produced in the late Iron Age period in the area of modern Gloucestershire, western Oxfordshire, and parts of Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Warwickshire, Berkshire, Wiltshire, and Somerset. The Dobunni inhabited a similar area in the early Roman period, thus making it likely that they minted the coin. Obverse: head right. Reverse: stylised horse left. Diameter: 15mm. Thickness: 1mm. An Iron Age silver unit of the Catuvellauni tribe dating to c. 60 BC - 20 BC. 'Whaddon Goat' type. The obverse depicts a horned head left, with coiled hair. The reverse depicts annulate goat stepping right, flowing mane, pellet in ring above and below. ABC 2487, VA 1552, BMC 383-85, S 51.
