A copper alloy Roman as (possibly a contemporary copy / Limesfalsum) of Maximus (while Caesar under his father Maximinus I) dating to AD 236-238 (Reece Period 11). PIETAS AVG reverse depicting a collection of priestly implements used for sacrifice (lituus, knife, patera, jug, simpulum and sprinkler). Mint of Rome. As RIC IVb p. 156 no. 12b; BMC VI, pp. 239-40, nos. 208-9. The coin is light (2.2g) and does seem to have a 'soapy' appeareance. If a copy / Limesfalsum, it could have been produced in the AD 240s.

The obverse depicts a laureate, draped and cuirassed bust facing right and is inscribed IMP MAXIMINVS PIVS AVG. The reverse depicts Providentia standing left and holding a baton over a globe and cornucopiae and is inscribed PROVIDENTIA AVG. Mint of Rome. RIC vol IV, pt. 2, p 141, no 13. The obscured head means it is not possible to be sure if this is a 235 or 236 issue.
