This coin, which survives in good condition, with little wear or corrosion, is classifed by Van Arsdell as a Late Whaddon Chase Type 1558-1 (1989; pp. 348) and has a suggested date of c.45-40 BC. It is British Museum type 376 (R. Hobbs; 1996; pp. 65). It measures 12.7mm in diameter, 1.3mm thick and weighs 1.17g.

Hobbs; 1996; pp. 65); Van Arsdell describes it as a Middle Whaddon Chase Type, no. 1546-1, and suggests a date of c. 45-40BC (1989; pp.347). The remaining coin is in good condition, with little wear or corrosion. It measures 12mm in diameter, 1.4mm thick and weighs 0.64g.

John Talbot comments: I have re-looked at this coin and have now worked out that the obverse die is C - therefore it is a well known die link C 2 within the LFC group. You need to revolve the obverse image by about 210 degrees clockwise to make sense of it.

These silver units have been published by Van Arsdell as coins of Verica and later being reinterpreted as issues of Tincomarus. This reading of his name was first identified on a coin from the Alton hoard, found in 1996 (see http://www.thebritishmuseum.ac.uk/explore/highlights)

A worn silver Iron Age unit of the Iceni, uncertain type, c.50 BC-43 AD. The coin is dish-shaped with extensive wear and encrustation on the obverse face making its identification impossible.
