An Early Medieval Arabic coin: a fragment of a dirham probably dating from the 7th-9th Century. Other dirhams found in/near this area are SWYOR-879A35, SWYOR-8797D2, SWYOR-5667E6 and SWYOR-89C183, so this example is probably of a similar date. Coins of this type of often found with other objects which suggest an Early Medieval trading site, and so this fragment is probably an ancient loss. Dirhams can also be an indicator of a Viking Great Army camp site. The fragment is 12.6mm long, 11.1mm wide and 0.56mm thick. 0.3g.
