A copper alloy forgery of a silver halfgroat of the Commonwealth of England (1649-1660). Only the reverse is now visible, depicting the conjoined shields of St George and Ireland with value mark 'I I' above. The obverse is entirely blank, either from heavy wear or perhaps an error during manufacture. Cf. North (1991), no.2728. The coin was presumably originally silver washed or plated to pass as genuine.

A silver hammered coin dating from the Post Medieval period: a halfgroat of James I (1603-1625), struck in 1619 - 1620 or later. The coin is a mule. The obverse is third coinage, spur rowel initial mark, North 2127. The reverse has stops so is of the second coinage, North 2105. A third of the coin edge on one side is slightly bent and nibbled.
Measurements: Diameter 16.0mm, thickness maximum 1.0mm although the majority of the coin has a thickness of 0.4mm, weight 0.8g.

Halfgroat of Elizabeth I (1558 - 1603) with cresent initial mark (1587 - 1589/90). Obv. E D G ROSA SINE SPINA. Crowned bust left with two pellets behind. Rev. CIVITAS LONDON. Square shield on cross forchée. (See North 1994: 137, No.2016).
Bust is heavily worn but distinguishable as is the inside of the shield. Legend on both sides clear but with worn outer edges.
