An incomplete silver Penny of Eadwald, King of East Anglia (AD 796-798). Heavy coinage. Reverse depicts Moneyers name within compartments of quatrefoil, pellet cross dividing. Struck by Eadnoth in East Anglia. Length: 14.85mm, Width: 9.28mm, Thickness: 0.83mm, Weight: 0.5g The coin is missing large portions of its outer flan. As North, Vol I, P 102, No 432. A complete early medieval silver penny of Æthelstan I of East Anglia (c.825-c.845), without bust, moneyer: Torhthelm (Naismith E40.1var; North 440), mint: East Anglia (Ipswich?) dating to the period c.AD830-837/8.  The coin appears to have been struck from the same dies as EMC 2018.0046. Obverse: Radiate bust right with long eyebrow, lips formed of two lines, no neck; runic legend before, inverted 'V' with two annulets behind.  Reverse: Degenerate beaded TOTII standard with various symbols, diagonals to corners, crosses to sides.  Probably 12 o'clock die axis. Weight is 1.01g.
