An incomplete Post-medieval silver groat of Edward VI (AD 1547-1553) in the name of Henry VIII (AD 1509-1547) dating c. 1547-1551. Bust six, Mint of Canterbury. As North 1991: pp119, no. 1875. The coin is heavily worn, in some places the silver plating has come away to reveal the copper alloy core.
Obverse: Bearded and crowned bust facing right (Henry VIII Bust six); Inscription: +hENRIC.8.D.G.[AGL.FRA].Z.HI'.REX

An incomplete and worn plated silver over copper-core post-Medieval groat of Edward VI (1547-1553) in the name of Henry VIII. Likely minted at Canterbury between c.1547-c.1551, North (1991) no.1875. Coin is heavily abraded and worn and in places the silver plating has come away to show the poor quality copper-alloy core.
Measurements: 25.33mm in diameter, 0.62mm thick and 1.46g in weight.

A silver Post Medieval coin; a posthumous groat of Henry VIII (AD 1509 - 1547), issued under Edward VI (AD 1547 - 1553), dating from AD 1547 - 1551, fifth bust, Canterbury mint. See North number 1875 on page 119 of Volume II (1991). The coin is 23.9mm diameter, 0.8mm thick and 2.32g. The coin is slightly bent and cracked. No visible initial mark.

Obverse description: Facing bare shouldered bust with double arched crown within open [for crown] tressure of six arches, a pellet left of neck and a saltire to right. Mintmark possibly tun (123).
Obverse inscription: HENRIC'Di[---]GL Z
Reverse description: Long cross, three pellets in each angle, inscription in two orders.
