A Post medieval lead alloy (contemporary) imitation of an 8 Reales of Charles III of Spain (1759-1788), dated 1777. The 'coin' was probably produced as a trial piece for the forgery of these coins. Diameter: 39.6 mm Thickness: 3.1 mm Weight: 28.4 g

A post-medieval cast lead-alloy imitation of a 8 Reales of Charles III of Spain (1759-88). A casting line is visible around the edge of the coin and the surface is dark grey and pitted. The specific coin copied appears to be an 8 Reales from the Mexico City mint under the assayers Francisco Antonio de la Pena y Flores and Manuel de la Rivera (mint mark M with o above; assayers marks F M). Dated AD 1772.
