Lead uniface token 1700 to 1900 AD that has been bent into an S-shape and it is thought that this modification of coins was to create love tokens. The devotional practice is believed to have gained popularity in post-reformation Elizabethan England and continued in to the 19th century. The ritual bending would have been performed when the coin was worn almost …

An incomplete Medieval to Post Medieval cast lead alloy uniface token, dating to c. AD 1250-1800. The token is decorated on one side with a long cross and one large pellet in each quadrant. The other side is undecorated and flat. Most of the circumference of the token has been broken off and the general condition of this object is poor. It measures 4.4 mm thick, 18.1 mm long, 16.5 mm wide and weighs 3.5 grams. The token is of a greyish-white colour. Tokens were easy to make and distributed widely throughout a large period of time; therefore, they are difficult to date precisely…

Half of a forged post medieval lead alloy coin dating late 16th-early 17th century. The coin has been cut in half and is very worn, making it difficult to discern the ruler this is trying to imitate. All that is clearly visible is a cross moline over a square shield on the reverse. There also appear to be pellets running around the edge. This indicates the coin is attempting to copy a silver shilling from thje reign of Elizabeth I - Charles I (AD 1558- 1649). Dimensions: diameter: 28.15 mm; weight: 2.14g.

The coin is silvered, which is now flaking off the surface, revealing a white metal beneath (probably a lead alloy). The coin has also been damaged on the edge, leaving a rectangular section removed. This is a copy of a North (1975, 135) type 2213 halfcrown. Dimensions: diameter: 32.63 mm; weight: 9.43g. Reference: North, J. J. 1975. English Hammered Coinage, Volume 2. A copper alloy contemporary copy of a half-crown of William III, dated 1696. The coin was probably originally silvered to give the impression of it being the official issue, however a number of these copies are known, most without retaining the silver coating. This example is the right size but is lighter than official issues, a trait often seen on forgeries of the period.
