A base silver Post Medieval coin; a penny issued in the reign of Edward VI (1547-1553), third period of coinage, about AD 1550-1553. The coin is somewhat worn and the surfaces corroded. Though no mint mark is visible, it was probably a mullet. Mint of York. The obverse reads E D G [ROSA] SINE. SPINA, depicting a Tudor Rose. Reverse legend reads: CIVI/TAS/[EBO/R]ACI, depicting a long cross fourchee over square topped shield bearing the royal coat of arms. The coin is 15.0mm in diameter, 0.8mm thick and weighs 0.59g. North number 1946.
