A copper alloy as of Gordian III (AD 238-244) dating to the period AD 243-244 (Reece period 12). The obverse depicts a laureate, draped and cuirassed bust facing right and is inscribed (IMP GORDIANVS PIVS FEL AVG). The reverse depicts Mars advancing right holding spear and shield and is inscribed (MARS PROPVGNAT, S C). Probably mint of Rome, although the silver colouring of the metal and soapy feel suggest this might be a Limesfalsum. RIC vol IV pt.3 p.52 no 332b. Find of Note
