A very worn 2nd-century copper-alloy Roman sestertius of Crispina, dating to c. AD 178-88 (Reece Period 9), SALVS S C, Salus seated left, feeding snake at altar. Mint of Rome. RIC III, p. 442, no. 672b. BMC IV (p. cliv) suggests that this issue with the obverse legend CRISPINA AVG IMP COMMODI AVG could have been struck early, in Marcus Aurelius' reign, c. AD 178-80. Crispina’s coinage was traditionally dated to c. AD 178-182, but more recent research suggests that she was probably not exiled to Capri until AD 188. Therefore, we date her coins to c.
