A Medieval silver continental imitation of a Long Cross penny of Henry III (AD 1216-1272). A match could not be found in North's (1996) analysis of continental forgeries of voided long cross pennies. Obverse: [].VC[]ON[] Crowned bust facing without sceptre. Reverse: CIL[]/OND/CN/I[] Voided long cross with three pellets in each quadrant. An Iron Age uninscribed base silver or billon stater of South-Western type, attributed to the Durotriges. Rudd's 'Cranborne Chase' type (ABC 2157), dating to c.58 BC - AD43. The coin is thicker to one side than the other. Cf. ABC no. 2175; BMC nos. 2790-2859, although cf. ABC 2169; BMC nos. 2555-2636 for the Cranborne Chase billon type.
