A lightweight white metal 50 pfennig German coin dated 1940 is clearly of recent date, but its interest may reside in its loss by a German Prisoner of War, either encamped or labouring nearby. Silver coin. a 'trick' or double-sided Uinted States quarter dollar fragment, as kindly identified by Thomas Whitfield. On one side appears a probably bewigged bust right. On the other side a distinct bust of a man with a slightly hooked nose appears left; not apparently bewigged. The legend - apparently the same on both sides - appears between 11 and 1 O'clock, and reads LIB[--]RTY. Traces of gilding appear on both sides.
