Modern cast copy of an Iron Age stater, of South Western uninscribed type, made of low quality silver alloyed with a base metal that is light as the coin only weighs 2.45g. There is no gold present and little copper. There are casting bubbles over the surface of the coin and it seems to have been distressed after casting to make it look more cracked and bent.
The coin appears to have been treated in an acidic solution, dissolving out the copper-rich phases, which may have been carried out by a modern maker to take the shine off it. This will certainly have affected the metal composi…

A MODERN IMITATION of a Late Saxon penny of Aethelstan produced by David Greenhalgh, aka Dave the Moneyer, aka Grunal Moneta. Note the characteristic use of his made-up moneyer's name Grunal on the reverse, and the date 95 for 1995. The coin's mass is unusually high for a coin of this type. cf penny of Aethelstan, North 686.

Broken cast copy of a silver long-cross penny of Edward III (1327-1377).
Modern reproduction. Obverse legend like third coinage but bust resembles fourth coinage. The weight of 0.85 g is also only two thirds of the weight of a typical silver penny of Edward III, that I have recently recorded, with a comparable amount of the edge of the coin missing.
