An incomplete silver siliqua of Julian, AD 355-363. This coin is a contemporary copy*, made using high quality silver. The obverse, which bears the legend 'D N IVLIAN-VS [P F AVG]', appears to have been copied from a coin of Arles (cf. RIC no. 292); the VOTIS V MVLTIS X reverse, however, has a Lyon mintmark and is a copy of RIC nos. 218-219. Although generally well executed, the poor formation of some of the letters adds weight to the belief that this is a forgery. Both the Lyons and Arles coins date from AD 360-363.
