The coin is in poor condition with considerable edge erosion removing most of the legend. There is evidence of possible silvering on the obverse.

A complete copper alloy Roman nummus follis (AE 1) of Constantius I, dating to the period AD 303-305 (Reece Period 15). Mint of Rome. SAC MON VRB AVGG ET CAESS NN reverse type. RIC VI Rome 112a; Sear 14085. This is an usual coin to have been found in Britain and it may not be an ancient loss (Dr Philippa Walton, pers. comm.). The patina / condition of the coin supports this theory however the location of the find is close to a Roman road and to Roman sites of this date.
