A very worn, overcleaned copper-alloy nummus of an uncertain tetrarchic ruler, dating to AD 294-307 (Reece Period 15). Reverse: probably GENIO POPVLI ROMANI. Possibly mint of Lyon. This coin has been pierced, presumably for use as a jewellery item at a later date. Although this practice occurred in the Roman period it is most commonly documented as an early-medieval practice. The piercing respects neither obverse or reverse designs.
