The obverse has the laureate, cuirassed bust right with the reverse type SOLI INVICTO COMITI depicting Sol, with chlamys spread, radiate crown, advancing left, holding globe and raising right hand. There is surface erosion with a mid-green patina.

A complete copper alloy Roman nummus follis (AE 1) of Constantius I, dating to the period AD 303-305 (Reece Period 15). Mint of Rome. SAC MON VRB AVGG ET CAESS NN reverse type. RIC VI Rome 112a; Sear 14085. This is an usual coin to have been found in Britain and it may not be an ancient loss (Dr Philippa Walton, pers. comm.). The patina / condition of the coin supports this theory however the location of the find is close to a Roman road and to Roman sites of this date.
