Tin farthing of Charles II with copper plug in the centre. 1684-5. Nothing can be seen of the obverse legend, but the bust facing left can just be made out. It would have read CAROLVS A CAROLO. Nothing can be seen on the reverse, but it would have showed Britannia seated and read BRITANNIA with the date in the exergue. Part of the edge is damaged. Diameter 23.1mm, weight 4.53g.

Post medieval tin contemporary copy of a halfcrown of Charles II (1660-1685), unclear bust, AD 1663-1684. The tin or lead-tin mix would originally have appeared silver but has corroded and thickened badly, losing the edges and damaging the obverse design in particular.

A complete tin farthing of Charles II (AD 1660-1685), dating to AD 1684-1685. The tin farthing is complete although the copper alloy plug is mostly missing from the centre. The coin is in quite good condition however the inscription around the edge of the coin is largely unreadable. Tin farthings were first issued in 1684 to help boost the tin industry, with the copper alloy plug intending to discourage forgery but it failed in its purpose (http://www.coins-of-the-uk.co.uk/farth.html). Charles II died in February 1685 so coins of this date are quite rare. Spink (2011) No. 3395.

A complete but worn tin farthing of Charles II (AD 1660-1685), dating to AD 1684-1685. The tin farthing is complete with the copper alloy plug (although this appears white like lead) still in the centre. The coin is corroded and any date or inscription around the edge of the coin is unreadable, however both the obverse and reverse are clear enough to read the inscriptions. Tin farthings were first issued in 1684 to help boost the tin industry, with the copper alloy plug intending to discourage forgery but it failed in its purpose (http://www.coins-of-the-uk.co.uk/farth.html). Tin and copper alloy coin. Probably a plugged tin farthing of Charless II (1685-1688), very worn and abraded; issue of 1684. At first sight, no discernible detail remained on either side of a battered flan, save for the plug itself. The processing of images has thrown a bust facing left into view, which may uphold this identification. Diameter: 23.1mm, Weight: 5.29gms
