Object type: COIN
Broad period: IRON AGE
County: Lincolnshire
Workflow stage: Published
Iron Age copper alloy 'core' for a gold-plated stater, probably roughly copying a stater of the Corieltavi / North Eastern region, dating to c. AD1 -50. The obverse shows a horse left with a pellet and ring to left; little else is visible. The reverse is effaced / obscured by corrosion. It is not possible to find a precise parallel, although the style of the horse, with three linked pellets to its left, is similar to ABC (Rudd), p. 101, no. 1971 passim. Diameter 17.9mm, Masss 2.69g.
