A worn and deliberately cut copper-alloy Roman sestertius of Marcus Aurelius (AD 161-180), dating to the period c.AD 161-180 (Reeve period 8). Unclear reverse type depicting a standing female(?) figure left. Mint of Rome.  The coin has been deliberately cut in a straight line from 3 o'clock to 7/8 o'clock when viewed from the obverse. The cut is angled, sloping diagonally from the obverse outwards to the reverse. Modification like this would likely have removed the coin from circulation as a coin and indicates a secondary (possible votive?) function.

An early medieval penny of Eadred (946-55), Two-Line/Horizontal type (HT1; North 706), moneyer: Eferulf/Eoferulf, 'Midlands & South style'. Ref: North 1994: 141; Blunt et al 1989: 139. The coin is in fair condition, chipped around much of the edge and a part of the coin, roughly the width of the outer circle, has been bent at right angles to the rest of the coin. The coin was poorly struck with the centres on both obverse and reverse noticeably fainter than the rest of the field, and this is especially visible on the reverse where the central cross is barely visible.

A medieval silver coin of Edwardian/long cross type, probably a halfpenny of Edward III (1327-77), possibly Treaty Series (1361-69), Withers and Withers type 17 (North 1274) on the shape of the bust and weight of coin, mint: London (unclear but most likely). It is also possible that the coin is a penny of Edward IV (1461-83).  The coin is in poor condition, very worn and clipped, removing much of the inscription and clarity of the design. The weight of the coin at 0.58g (albeit clipped) would place it at the upper end for an Edward III halfpenny and lower end for an Edward I…

A worn and clipped post-medieval silver halfgroat of James I (1603-25), Second or Third Coinage (North 2104-2105/2 or 2127) dating to 1604-25, mint: Tower. Ref: North 1991: 146-8.  The coin is heavily worn, much damaged by clipping and appears to be doublestruck (although the latter is uncertain). The flan is warped and cracked. Its weight suggests the coin is a halfgroat. Few details remain on the coin, although there is a crowned rose visible on one side (obverse) and a crown on the other (reverse),  and fragments of inscription remain which, if correc…
