A Medieval silver cut halfpenny or farthing, short cross issue of Richard I - Henry III, dating to the period AD 1189-1242. The moneyer may be Alein of Carlise (Richard I) or Alain (later kings) but the coin is too worn for further identification. The cut of the coin is unusual, not in a normal quarter as is usually seen. It may have originally been cut has a halfpenny then clipped down.
