CURATOR'S REPORT A Roman coin; a silver denarius of Elgabalus minted in Rome in AD 218 - 222. Circumstance of Discovery On 9th September 2008 Louise Snow of Archaeological Services, deposited at the Oriental Museum, University of Durham, a site archive of 41 coins which had been recovered by archaeologists during the course of excavations conducted at Bramham, West Yorkshire (site code BTW 07). A silver Roman coin; part of a broken contemporary copy of a denarius probably of Septimus Severus (193 – 211 AD), with Hercules (probably) on the reverse. The coin is 16.3mm long, 11.6mm wide and 2.39mm thick. It weighs 1.78g. There is copper corrosion where the coin has broken, so it is probably a contemporary copy.
