A silver Roman coin; a denarius of Septimius Severus, dating from AD 198 - 200. Reverse: IOVI PROPVGNATORI, Jupiter right brandishing thunderbolt and raising left hand, wrapped in cloak. Compare RIC 4.1 no. 131. The coin has some copper alloy corrosion but this appears to be on top of the silver. The coin is 18.1mm diameter, 2.5mm thick and 2.98g.

A Roman silver coin: a denarius of Septimus Severus (AD193-211), Two Captives under a trophy, PART ARAB PART ADIAB COSS II PP reverse type, dating from 195 AD. There is a small chip from the flan at six o'clock on the obverse. It is 17.2mm in diameter and 1.9mm thick. It weighs 2.55gm. It is possible that the coin is a contemporary plated copy. Compare Sear Volume II number 6322 for the reverse legend and 6323 for the reverse design.
