A Roman silver plated copper alloy coin: a plated copy of a denarius of Vespasian, dating from AD 74 (Reece period 4), reverse type PON MAX TR P COS V, depicting Vespasian, seated right on curule chair, with sceptre and branch. Mint of Rome. Reference RIC 2, Part 1 number 702 and see http://numismatics.org/ocre/id/ric.2_1(2).ves.702 The coin is struck slightly of-centre on an oblong flan which is 20.06mm long, 19mm wide and 1.6mm thick. A Roman silver coin: a contemporary plated copy of a denarius of Vespasian (AD69-79), COS ITER TR POT reverse type showing Pax seated. The core is copper alloy, plated with silver, some of which has now flaked away to reveal the inner metal. The obverse is central, but the reverse is struck somewhat off centre. It is 18.9mm in diameter and 2.2mm thick. It weighs 2.31gm. Compare Sear Volume II number 2285.
