Circumstance of Discovery On 9th September 2008 Louise Snow of Archaeological Services, deposited at the Oriental Museum, University of Durham, a site archive of 41 coins which had been recovered by archaeologists during the course of excavations conducted at Bramham, West Yorkshire (site code BTW 07). A Roman silver coin: a denarius of Caracalla (198 - 217). It is struck on an oval flan that is 20.4mm long and 19mm wide. It is almost the same as Sear Volume II number 6909, but the bust is not draped and cuirassed. It shows the emperor sacrificing over a tripod altar on the reverse.

The coin reverse shows Dea Caelestis holding a thunderbolt and sceptre seated facing forwards on a lion leaping over water which gushes from a rock on the left. See Sear number 6285. However, it is possible that it is a contemporary copy. It has a diameter of 18.99mm, thickness 1.93mm and a weight of 1.99g.
