A silver Roman coin; a denarius of the Republic (269BC - 30BC), Series 20 (119BC - 110BC). The moneyer signed the coin "Q METE" standing for Q Metellus. He is not easy to identify, but is believed to be a junior member of the Metelli family who were at the height of their power at the time. The coin is marked with an asterix; a monogram of XVI. This was added to denarii coins to show that they were worth 16 Asses. Previously they had been worth only 10 Asses. A silver Roman coin; a denarius of Hadrian (117 - 138), second consulship (118 - 119). The coin is in excellent condition and is hardly worn, though it has a few chips in the edge of the flan. Pax is shown on the reverse. The coin has a diameter of 19.5mm. The coin is sealed in a coin envelope so it's thickness and weight cannot be ascertained. A silver plated Roman coin; a contemporary copy of a denarius probably of Marcus Aurelius, 161-80AD. There are mistakes in the legends, such as a 'V' in place of the 'T' in Antoninvs(ANVONINVS) and some further confusion with "T"s generally. The imitated coin is probably Sear, vol. II, number 4947.
