A silver Roman coin; a denarius of Vespasian (AD 69-79), dating to AD 69-70 (Reece Period 4). Obverse: IMP CAESAR VESPASIANVS AVG, Laureate head right. Reverse: IVDAEA, captive or Judaea, facing right, seated beneath a trophy of arms. Mint of Rome. Compare LON-FE5FF8 and WREX-CBF245 which cites RIC II (2nd ed), p. 58, no. 2. This commemorates the initial victory over the Jewish rebels in Judaea. Compare Sear Volume 1, number 2296 on page 436. The coin is 18.5mm diameter, 2.3mm thick and 2.3g.
