An incomplete Roman silver plated contemporary copy of a denarius of Vespasian (AD 69 - 79), dating to AD 70 (Reece period 4). The surface is discoloured by corrosion from the base metal core.There is damage to one edge with the core being exposed, the reverse is completely lost to corrosion, no detail can be seen. Obverse shows a bust of probably Vespasian, with a blundered legend.
Such forgeries are common in the Flavian period, with several examples on this database; PUBLIC-244A6A, SWYOR-BFEF86 and LIN-D7F660

A fragment of a silver denarius of Carausius (AD 286-93) (Reece Period 14), Reverse type EXPECTATE VEN(I), Britannia standing right, holding vertical sceptre, clasping hands of emperor standing left, holding vertical sceptre.
Approximately 50% of the coin survives, the figure of the emperor can be seen, Britannia is missing.
Sam Moorhead notes this is an unusual but probably official style.
The diameter is 18.06 mm, the thickness is 1.3 mm, weight is 0.97g
