Unusual Roman coin: this appears to be a copper alloy core for a plated contemporary copy of a silver denarius. The obverse inscription does not make sense with the portrait. It looks like Macrinus (217-8), although the inscription is not consistent with him.

A silver Roman denarius of Lucius Verus (AD 161-169), probably a contemporary copy, dating to the period c.AD 162-169 (Reece period 8). PROV DEOR TR P III COS II reverse type depicting Providentia standing left holding globe and cornucopiae. Prototype of the mint of Rome. cf. RIC III, p. 253, no. 491 for the reverse type. The obverse and reverse types do not appear together in the same issue and the error in the reverse legend suggests that this may be a contemporary copy.
