Unusual Roman coin: this appears to be a copper alloy core for a plated contemporary copy of a silver denarius. The obverse inscription does not make sense with the portrait. It looks like Macrinus (217-8), although the inscription is not consistent with him.

A Roman copper alloy denarius (probably a silver-washed denarius) of Geta, dating to the period AD 203 - 208. Reece Period 10. The obverse has the draped bust right, with Minerva standing left, leaning on shield and holding sceptre, on the reverse. The coin has been broken in antiquity loosing around 25% of the rim/coin. This style of coin is more typically found as a silver denarius, it may be that this was a 'coated' coin but now lost in the passage of time.
