A plated copy of an 8 escudos coin of Philip III of Spain. Reverse: HISPANIARVM REX 1637; cross inside quadrilobe. The copper alloy plating has been damaged in places revealing a blueish core, probably lead alloy. A seem is visible around the outer edge of the coin and patches of gilding remain on each face. It is unclear whether the coin was intended to deceive during the Post-Medieval period or in more recent times.
