A medieval silver short cross penny of Richard I (1189-1199) to John (1199-1216), Class i, moneyer Halli, minted in Rhuddlan in c.1190 - c. 1215 (North 972/1). cf. Brand 1965, no. 1050. North and Brand date the Rhuddlan coins to c.1180-c.1190 due to similarities between Rhuddlan Class i and Short Cross Class I, but Rhuddlan coins do not appear in hoards containing only Class I coins. They first appear in the Ashton hoard dating to the early 1190s, which suggests that the mint opened in c.1190 (Mass, 2001, 63).
