Clipped silver halfcrown of Charles I (1625-1649AD), Equestrian portrait, Group IV, with a star initial mark, dating 1640-1641.  Obverse has the King on horseback, left. The legend reads CAROLVS D G MAG BR FRA ET HE REX.  The reverse has an oval garnished shield and the legend CHRISTO AVSPICE REG[N]O.  See North (1991, 159 No. 2214). A modified (pierced and gilded) post medieval sixpence of Elizabeth I, coronet initial mark and dated to 1567. As North 1997. The coin has been deliberately bent into an S-shape. The edge of the piercing is rough on the reverse side, suggesting that it was pierced from the obverse side and perhaps fixed by a nail in order to display the obverse.
